Set-Aside Goals

Saving is a job. Pay yourself first.

Build psychological walls around your money by setting it aside in Goals and Portfolios (Sinking Funds), shielding it from the aggressive flow of your monthly budget.

Structured Finances (Sinking Funds)

  • Money set aside

Each contribution can move the money from your spending account to a savings account, recorded as a transfer, so it stays apart from what you use day to day.

  • Goals and Deadlines Ahead

Set up a trip to Tokyo 10 months from now for $3K, and Wälo will calculate how much you need to contribute each month; you record each contribution.

  • Wealth Growth

Your set-aside goals keep adding to your final consolidated Wealth total, rewarding you psychologically as you watch the upward trend.

Savings Manual

Learn to protect your money from yourself.

Step 1

Define Your Financial Goal

Go to the 'Goals and Savings' section. Click 'New Goal', give it a name (e.g. 'Trip to Tokyo') and set the target amount ($3,000) and the deadline.

Step 2

Monthly contributions

Wälo divides what's missing by the months left and tells you how much to contribute each month. You record each contribution from the goal: you choose which account it leaves and which it goes into, or you just note the progress.

Step 3

Tracking and Growth

If you move the money to a savings account, it is no longer in the account you spend from. Your overall Net Worth (Wealth) keeps counting it in full so you can watch your wealth grow in the charts.
