Terms of Service

1. What Wälo Is

Wälo is a personal finance management application offered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). It allows you to track transactions, plan budgets and retirement, monitor your credit score, and export tax data — primarily in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Wälo is operated by Wälo, Inc. ("we," "us," "Wälo"). By creating an account or using the service, you ("user," "you") agree to these Terms.

2. Eligibility

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
• You must provide accurate and current information.
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity under your account.
• You may not create multiple accounts to evade limits or bans.

3. Pricing and Subscription

• Free plan: available indefinitely. No credit card required. Includes manual entry, up to 3 accounts, 500 transactions/year, and limited AI.
• Premium plan: $5.99/month USD, recurring monthly. Includes Plaid bank sync, unlimited accounts and transactions, retirement planner, fee analyzer, TurboTax export, credit score, multi-currency, and priority support.
• 14-day free trial: Premium features are free for 14 days when you create an account. No card required to start. After the trial, the account auto-reverts to Free unless you actively subscribe.
• Cancellation: cancel anytime in Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds for partial months.
• Price changes: we may change prices with at least 30 days notice via email. You may cancel before changes take effect to avoid them.
• Taxes: prices are stated in USD before applicable sales tax (collected by Stripe based on your jurisdiction).

4. Bank Connections (Plaid)

When you connect a bank via Plaid, you authorize read-only access to your account information. Wälo cannot move money, make payments, or modify your bank account in any way. Plaid handles authentication directly with your bank — Wälo never sees your bank username or password.

You may disconnect any bank at any time from Settings → Connected Banks. Disconnection is immediate — Wälo's access tokens are revoked with Plaid the moment you click disconnect.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Wälo for any illegal purpose, money laundering, or fraud.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code (beyond what's permitted by open-source licenses where applicable).
• Scrape, automate, or programmatically access Wälo without our written permission.
• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Wälo's services.
• Upload viruses, malicious code, or content that violates intellectual property rights.
• Impersonate another person, create accounts with false identity, or share your account.
• Attempt to bypass rate limits, security measures, or feature gates.

7. Your Data and Content

• You own your data. Transactions, budgets, notes, categories — all yours. We have a license to process this data only to provide the service.
• You can export at any time in Settings → Account → Export Data (CSV + JSON).
• You can delete at any time in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent.
• Backups: we maintain encrypted backups for disaster recovery. Deleted account data is purged from backups within 90 days.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Wälo is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Wälo's total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) $100 USD or (b) the total amount you paid Wälo in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Wälo is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption — even if advised of the possibility.

Bank-side errors, Plaid outages, missed transactions, or stale balances: we provide a best-effort service but cannot guarantee 100% accuracy or uptime. Always verify critical information with your bank directly.

9. Termination

• You may terminate at any time by deleting your account.
• We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, with or without notice for serious violations (e.g., fraud, abuse).
• For non-serious violations we will notify you and give 14 days to cure.
• Upon termination, your access ends immediately and your data is deleted per our retention policy.

10. Governing Law and Disputes

• These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
• Any dispute will first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved within 30 days, disputes will be settled by binding arbitration in Delaware under the rules of the American Arbitration Association.
• Class action waiver: you agree to bring claims only individually, not as part of a class.
• Small claims court remains available for qualifying disputes.
• EU residents retain their statutory rights under EU consumer protection law.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes (pricing, dispute resolution, key user obligations) will be notified via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Minor changes take effect immediately and are reflected in the "Last updated" date. Continued use of Wälo after changes constitutes acceptance.
